Shaquille O’neil is a man of many talents. On the basketball court, his massive size made him one of the most voluminous players in NBA history. What some people forget, however, is that Shaq is also a classically-trained actor who made some of the best movies of the nineties.
Don’t know where to begin your Shaq journey? Start with our list of the 3 best movies starring Shaq:
3.) Blue Chips (1994)
Shaq’s film debut was this 1994 movie about a basketball coach struggling to recruit players for his team. Although he is not the star of the movie, Shaq gives a captivating performance as Neon, a high school basketball prodigy with a heart of gold. In the end, Neon receives a brand new Lexus, and Nick Nolte learns hard lessons about the cutthroat world of college recruitment tactics.
Shaquille O’Neal works for the military, but gets really pissed off and quits when his project to create less-lethal weapons is sabotaged. Fed up with the crime on the streets, Shaq decides to design his own armor and become a man of “steel” to fight back. This movie was so far ahead of its time that critics and audiences alike could not recognize its artistic brilliance.
1.) Kazaam (1996)
Everyone knows it ain’t easy being a young boy in the ‘hood. That’s what Max is dealing with until he meets Shaq the genie. Shaq grants Max three wishes and even reunites the boy with his criminal father. As Roger Ebert said of the movie, “right there you have a wonderful illustration of the movie’s creative bankruptcy.” Ị
